Gears of War has been quiet. Too quiet.

Though Gears 5 won hearts upon launch, it sadly seemed to suffer from the low attention span that comes with launching on Game Pass, and it was quickly lost in the swamp. It was a fate that the Gears series hadn't earned, and even though ongoing talks about the series' appearance in multiple forms on Netflix are supposedly ongoing, we don't have much word on the tangible facts about the return of the series.

But that could be about to change.

The first details of Gears 6 have reportedly leaked

The latest details from what is expected to be the official sixth mainline title in the Gears of War franchise have been heard, as Nick Baker from the Xbox Era podcast, better known as Shpeshal Nick, has spoken of a few things that he's heard through the grapevine.

"I've heard a few things about Gears 6 a while back," he says on an episode of the podcast. "Nothing too major. I just heard that A, it's a little further along than some might think... I also heard that there's a strong possibility that it may be like a full, almost open-world game. I know Gears 5 was a step towards that, and i think Gears 6 might take that to another level."

It's an interesting implication that the game series could end up going open-world, and it's something that we haven't seen fully fleshed out in the Gears franchise so far, so only time will tell if both it exists, and it can be pulled off.

When can we expect Gears 6?

We don't have any word yet on when we can actually expect Gears 6 to arrive, but judging by Nick's own speculation that the game is further along than we think it is, it wouldn't be too far out of the realm of possibility to expect it to arrive next year in 2024.

Especially as The Coalition is putting all of its eggs in one basket with the series, maybe next year could officially be the year. We should be so lucky.
