Zombies have been a big part of Call of Duty for years now, and they're constantly being redefined and redesigned. Perhaps the biggest change to them was brought to Warzone, but are Warzone zombies on their way back to the map.

While the round-based Zombies mode defined the mainline Call of Duty shooter series for many, Raven adopted the undead for entirely different means - creating an Infected mode that turned the antagonists into sprinting, leaping, deadly, fleshy beasties. It was fun while it lasted, and now, it looks like it's going to be making a return.

Are Warzone Zombies Coming Back?

It has been revealed by Call of Duty that the zombies we know and love from Warzone are making a bold return in Season 4. Even as we look ahead to Warzone 2.

The roadmap for the new season, Mercenaries of Fortune, has revealed that a mode called Rebirth of the Dead is on the slate for release. Fans were worried for some time that the introduction of the new Fortune's Keep map would wipe Rebirth Island from the game, but this is proof of the contrary - and that it's getting new content to boot.

This isn't the only thing hinting at the return of Warzone zombies - the official Call of Duty blog has said that "there are strange rumours concerning an undead surge and the ultimate test for Operators coming online…". Interesting.

When Are Zombies Coming Back To Warzone?

We know that zombies will be returning to Warzone during Season 4, which begins on June 22, but there's no word on when during the season we can expect the undead mode to land. It's probably safe to assume that the mode will be introduced a little later into the season to keep up engagements once players have had their fun with new content.

A few weeks into the season, perhaps around early-to-mid July, sounds like a safe assumption. It's nice to see Zombies make a return to Warzone, even outside of its Halloween events. It looks like we're set for spooks all year round as those shuffling brain-munchers make their way back into the game. Zombies in World War II... who'd have thought it?
