The news of the passing of Team Vitality's pro player Karen "Twisten" Ašenbrenerrocked the VALORANT community. The 19-year-old was announced to have passed on June 7, after having struggled with his mental health and having spent some time in a specialist facility.
It was a crushing loss for the esports communities around VALORANT, as players and fans alike have been paying tribute to the pro player and his dedication to the game. And now, VALORANT has returned the favour to Twisten, honouring him in the style he deserves.
VALORANT pays tribute to Twisten with in-game cosmetic
In a touching tribute to the late pro player of the game, Riot Games has provided a tribute to Twisten with a brand-new cosmetic that players can pick up for free during this season of VALORANT.
One of the free chapter rewards for the upcoming Episode 7 Act 1 battle pass is a player title that simply reads "TWISTEN." It's a way to immortalise the Team Vitality player.
It's a nice touch for Riot Games to give Twisten some love in-game, and even better for it to be free so that any player can pick it up and use it as a badge of honour.
This is quite similar to the player title offered in Episode 6 Act 3 for VALORANT developer Gizem "Luie" Harmankaya, who sadly died in the aftermath of the Turkish earthquakes.
How can I unlock VALORANT's Twisten tribute?
If you want to wear Twisten's title in-game, then all you need to bag it is play the game during the upcoming season enough to reach the fifth tier. Once you've surpassed that, you'll be awarded the title entirely for free.
It's a nice thing for VALORANT to do, especially as this kind of thing has historically been reserved for developers - but it seems as though the door has been opened to those who have made a truly positive impact in the shooter's communities.
