Having all but mastered the art of bundles and cosmetics, Riot Games left just one area to be desired for fans: Melee buddies.
Although we've had hundreds of melee weapons over the years ranging from the standard blade to katanas and butterfly knives, none have been allowed to have a buddy attached to allow for more expression and flair. Until now, as VALORANT finally has its first melee buddy.
Melee buddies arrive in VALORANT through VCT Champions 2024
The VCT 2024 Champions bundle has divided opinions. Many players wanted something a bit more ambitious after seeing similar designs over the last few years, but after release, it appears to have warmed most hearts.
With a reactive skin that counts your game kills and a finisher - which allows you to smash the fossils of your fallen enemies in a small post-round mini-quest - the bundle has been well-received.
But the cherry on top is the fact that you can finally have a gun buddy on your melee if you play well enough. There is a catch though...
The melee buddy will only activate after you surpass 21 kills in a single game, which triggers the final form of the Phantom skin. Then, you will see whichever buddy you have equipped to your gun duplicate and appear on your knife.
This is the first time in VALORANT history that a buddy has landed on a melee weapon, even if it is for the twilight stages of your matches.
But, it seems like a positive for the future, as there's likely to be a follow-up to the melee buddy as VALORANT's skin game continues to advance.
