VALORANT fans beg Riot to not release on console
VALORANT's fan base has grown immensely strong, and a lot of that is thanks to the communities of casual and pro fans that have formed around it. One thing keeps it from growing, though, and that's the game's PC exclusivity.
We've known for some time to expect a console port of Riot Games' tactical shooter, but it now looks like it could be peeking around the corner. Although it seems like an easy way to hit the mainstream of Fortnite or Call of Duty, fans are desperate for the port not to go ahead.
PC VALORANT players don't want to play with console players
The conversation of PC and console matchmaking has finally reached VALORANT, and now that hints of playtests are coming for the game on PlayStation and Xbox, a vocal minority are hoping that they won't have to engage in cross-play.
A tweet from Valorantupdates has spurred a huge amount of pushback from fans who are insisting that crossplay would decimate the tactical play that's present in the title's current form.
One irate gamer grumbled, "This is going to flop like csgo did on consoles," while another implored, "please let there NOT be cross play." A third concluded, "Literally going to become valve and find out tact shooters on console do not work."
Not everyone was against it though, as someone else saw a solution and said, "As long as ranked is isolated on each platform, and casuals are cross platform, I see no reason this is a bad thing. Common riot engineer W." We'll have to wait and see whether this is a disaster waiting to happen.
Will VALORANT have crossplay?
Though there are many concerns about a skill deficit that naturally comes about when PC games shift to controllers, it's still very likely that VALORANT will feature cross-play. The question we need to ask is whether it will appear in competitive modes.
If Riot Games is smart about things, competitive modes will be locked to their respective platforms when the game launches on consoles, but it could be balanced for the future. As flick aiming is such a big part of VALORANT and so is skill level, it's a sticky situation that will undoubtedly leave some annoyed.
Following three years of relative peace, VALORANT fans are rightly concerned that their experience is about to be dissected, and they could be right. We're just going to have to hang back and watch the chaos.
