Somehow, we're still doing NFTs. We'd hoped that it'd be long over by now, but alas, we haven't let go of entering the crypto JPEG lottery.

NFTs in gaming are a pipe dream that has already been proven not to work by Valve, but people are still banking on its successes. Gaming companies are reciprocating, with Ubisoft's Quartz and Square Enix's enthusiasm about how the blockchain can somehow improve our favourite games. But, one title has had to reassure players that it isn't getting NFTs.

Is VALORANT Adding NFTs?

Riot Games has had to reiterate that it doesn't intend on including NFTs in its hero shooter, VALORANT. This became a hot topic after one of its characters accidentally showed off the work of an NFT artist.

The VALORANT social media team posted a picture of the character Killjoy, who was visiting a museum and admiring the works of Martin Houra - a developing name in the NFT art space.

Riot has since had to come forward to put fans' minds at ease, but this doesn't mean that the game is going to get into NFTs, and nor is Killjoy. Hopefully, that clears up that Killjoy isn't an NFT-obsessed hacker.

"Since Killjoy loves programming, we wanted to introduce you to computer generated art from around the world," reads the Twitter statement. "However, we were not aware that the selected work was an NFT. In no way did we intend to include NFTs as part of Killjoy's work and hobbies." Whoopsie, indeed.

Will VALORANT Get NFTs?

VALORANT Accidentally Introduced NFTs

Let's be honest, VALORANT straying into NFTs would be pretty dire as it is - but it doesn't look like the game is going to head that way regardless.

The team have gone far out of its way to express that one of their characters isn't even interested in them, so it looks as though they have at least a concern for the movement of the practice. After all, Riot Games probably doesn't need the extra money either way.

NFTs are an alarming addition to the wider gaming conversation, but at least the likes of Riot Games isn't having it. Godspeed, Riot - welcome to the NFT resistance.
