Modern Warfare 3 Zombies looks to be over and done with.

The new open-world Zombies experience in Modern Warfare 3 started life off with a lot of promise, with players thoroughly enjoying the new way to play and the increasingly entertaining high-stakes games.

But after just one season, MW3 Zombies looks to be getting the DMZ treatment, as Treyarch looks towards the return of round-based undead in 2024 with its Gulf War title.

According to CharlieIntel, Treyarch has confirmed that Modern Warfare 3 will not be getting any more major updates moving forward, in terms of new perks or new enemy types.

"Treyarch has confirmed that there are no plans to introduce any new perks or enemy types for Modern Warfare Zombies," it said on Twitter.

This insinuates that the only new additions to Modern Warfare 3 Zombies will be different schematics, changes to the map such as the Season 2 Dark Aether Rift, and new missions.

Parallels have already been drawn to DMZ, which was left out to dry after Season 2.

It was always going to be short and sweet for Modern Warfare 3 Zombies, given that the mode was only brought in last-minute by Treyarch to help out Sledgehammer, who reportedly had MW3 land on its lap just six months before its launch.

But it now seems that Treyarch has already pulled its main bulk of Zombies devs back to work on Black Ops Gul War after it was revealed to be going all-in on round-based Zombies again.

This has only been heightened by the fact that Raven Software appears to be taking control of the new open-world Campaign, freeing Treyarch's hands to work on multiplayer and Zombies.

It does breathe hope into Zombies fans though who will be hoping for some well-needed attention later this year, but for those who have learned to love MW3 Zombies, the undead blood might taste a little bit more sour now.
