First launching all the way back in 2016, Titanfall 2 instantly garnered a dedicated fanbase of players who absolutely loved the title's gameplay.

Unfortunatley for fans of the franchise, Respawn's focus shifted towards Apex Legends and its live service model, meaning the team was always working on the next seasonal content drop.

As a result, rumours and speculation about a potential Titanfall 3 release dissipated, with a lot of players coming to the conclusion that the next game would never arrive.

Seemingly out of the blue, hope for the Titanfall series has been reignited after Respawn implemented a mysterious new multiplayer game mode.

Titanfall 2 receives mysterious new "???" gamemode

Taking to Twitter on September 18, popular Apex Legends new account alphaINTEL reported that Respawn added a new game mode to Titanfall 2.

Mysteriously titled "???," the mode's description is a reference to the spartan movie 300, simply saying "Your rockets will blot out the sun."

The new mode effectively offers Titanfall 2 players access to unlimited rockets in-game that do an enhanced amount of damage.

Of course, this isn't a huge addition to multiplayer, but it was a complete shock to the community that the game would get any updates at all. As you would expect, this has sparked a lot of excitement and speculation about the potential for Titanfall 3.

Respawn has denied rumours that Titanfall 3 is in development multiple times, but fans are convinced this update proves otherwise.

"So they lied, they never stopped progress on the Titandall 3 game, this is just a transition to it," said one fan, with another asking "What are they cooking?"

It's worth noting that the discussion around Titanfall 3 is purely speculation at the moment and nothing official has come from Respawn. However, the team's decision to head back to Titanfall 2 and create a new mode with a cryptic name is certainly interesting. Let's hope there are more clues and hints on the horizon.
