HBO is flying its rainbow flag proudly, as The Last of Us continues to be one of the most progressive shows on television. Now, a major LGBTQ+ storyline has been confirmed for Season 2.

The network is known for showcasing a diverse slate of LGBTQ+ characters and actors in the likes of Euphoria, House of the Dragon, and Westworld, with The Last of Us being another in a long line. Then again, the source material of Naughty Dog's games was much the same.

Bella Ramsey Confirms Ellie's Lesbian Relationship

Although Ellie's sexuality is hinted at in the Left Behind DLC of the first game, 2020's The Last of Us Part II proudly puts her in a relationship with a woman called Dina. While showrunner Craig Mazin has made a few deviations from the source material, this won't be one of them.

Discussing Ellie finding love, Ramsey told the Happy Sad Confused Podcast, "I'm really excited, to be honest, for the Ellie/Dina story." This seemingly confirms that we'll be casting Dina for the recently confirmed The Last of Us Season 2

Ramsey isn't the only one shipping Ellie and Dina, as she continued, "I've watched a cut together, someone's made a phenomenal – I don't know how they do it – like an amazing edit of just the gameplay, like Ellie and Dina's love story. So I'm excited to play that out."

The Last Of Us Is Destined For More LGBTQ+ Hate

Of course, more LGBTQ+ storylines are sure to rattle those haters. While the critically acclaimed Episode 3 fleshed out the minor characters of Bill and Frank into an epic same-sex love story, that didn't stop haters from review-bombing it

Sorry to report it to you, but you should probably turn it off now if you didn't like Episode 3. We know Left Behind is getting its own adaptation in Season 1, with Euphoria's Storm Reid playing Riley. The first game only hinted at Ellie's sexuality, but we imagine this flashback episode will take things further.

For those critics that think Ramsey isn't the "right fit" for Ellie, the star recently discussed the fact she's genderfluid and told The New York Times, "I'm very much just a person. Being gendered isn't something that I particularly like, but in terms of pronouns, I really couldn't care less."

The Last of Us Season 1 still has five episodes left, but with Season 2 confirmed to adapt at least some of Part II and introduce Dina, we're excited to see Ramsey grow with the role.
