Warning: major The Last of Us spoilers ahead

Death comes for us all, and if one actor knows that, it's Pedro Pascal. Having played the doomed Oberyn Martell in HBO's Game of Thrones, Pascal is back on the network and has reunited with fellow Westeros alumni Bella Ramsey for The Last of Us

Season 1 has wrapped after just nine episodes, and as we look ahead to the confirmed Season 2, we know the team will adapt 2020's The Last of Us Part II. Not all of the game will be squeezed into Season 2, meaning Season 3 is also in the way

Troy Baker hypes The Last of Us' big death

While parts of Season 1, like the acclaimed Bill and Frank episode, deviated from the source material, showrunner Craig Mazin largely retold the 2013 game - thanks to the involvement of Game Director Neil Druckmann. We're expecting a similarly thorough Season 2, and with that, a massive death is on the horizon.

For those who've played The Last of Us Part II, you'll know Joel Miller isn't long for this world. With Joel killing the Fireflies to save Ellie in Part I, a woman called Abby Anderson takes revenge on him for killing her father. It leads to a harrowing showdown where she beats him to death with a golf club.

Troy Baker voiced Joel in The Last of Us games, and popped by for a cameo as James in HBO's series. Discussing Joel's looming demise, Baker told TheGamer, "I want to see [Joel's death] again. I want people to be able to wrestle with it. I did, and for me it's a part of that story, it's the truest version of that story."

Saying he has hope that Druckmann and Mazin can do Joel's death justice, Baker added, "I know that Craig [Mazin] believes in the story we told in the games and we'll do that. We'll see how they do it, but I definitely feel that if we made people feel something we did our jobs, and that's what we're here to do."

Who plays Abby in The Last of Us?

As for Abby, theories that we saw her in the Season 1 finale turned out to be a bust, as Druckmann told Kinda Funny, "Okay, I’ll kill that rumor. That is not Abby." Still, most have accepted that the male surgeon Joel shoots is likely Abby's father.

In terms of who is playing Abby, our hopes that Florence Pugh could flex her muscles might come to nothing. We've already covered how The Wilds' Shannon Berry has seemingly been cast as Abby, although we'll have to wait for official word.

Even though The Last of Us will likely continue to carve its own story, no one is buying the idea that Joel will be saved from his bloody fate. As one of THE defining moments in video games, the death of Joel is much like Glenn being killed in The Walking Dead comics, meaning we can't see it not playing out on screen.
