A teaser trailer shown during the THQ Nordic Digital Showcase on 11 August has given us the first glimpse at the next Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game.

The game was initially teased by Paramount during an interview Polygon did with Doug Rosen, the senior vice president for games and emerging media at Paramount Global.

What have we learned from the trailer?

The trailer is very much a tease as it doesn’t give us very much information outside of which platforms the game is coming to and that it is, in fact, coming at all.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin is currently in development and is going to be coming to PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.

There is currently no announced date for when the game will be coming out, and Rosen made it clear in his interview that it would be at least a few years until the game's release.

What is TMNT: The Last Ronin about?

In his interview with Polygon in March this year, Doug Rosen said The Last Ronin was going to be a third-person action role-playing game similar to God of War and that it would be faithful to the graphic novel arc.

We are given a glimpse into the story through press materials. The press release reads: "Who is the Last Ronin? In a future, battle-ravaged New York City, a lone surviving Turtle embarks on a seemingly hopeless mission seeking justice for the family he lost."

The Last Ronin is a best-selling comic book event by Eastman, Waltz, Bishop, Delgado, and the Escorza Brothers which was released in 2020. The five-part miniseries's story follows the only surviving turtle as he uses his brothers weapons to seek revenge on Shredder's grandson after they were all killed by the Foot Clan.

With a dark story echoed by a dark trailer, it will be interesting to see how bleak the game itself is when it is eventually released.
