It's been a decent year for Ubisoft. Assassin's Creed Mirage was a banger, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora closed out the year, and The Crew: Motorfest zoomed onto our platforms, while Rainbow Six Siege continued to receive constant updates.
Still, around the holidays we all get a bit reflective, and it appears Ubisoft is feeling that nostalgia, too. In fact, in a surprise twist, some older Xbox 360 games have had their servers switched back on.
You can play Assassin's Creed 3 online again
As reported by True Achievements, it appears servers are back online for Assassin's Creed 3, Rayman Legends, Driver: San Francisco, and Splinter Cell: Blacklist.
It's an eclectic list, but True Achievements users have noted they've been able to nab some online-only achievements that were thought long gone, meaning if you're looking to wrap up 1000 Gamerscore on something like Assassin's Creed 3, you can now get the last of the trophies you need.
Assassin's Creed 3 was a divisive entry in the series but has since been remastered, while Rayman Legends also came to the Xbox One generation. Splinter Cell: Blacklist remains the last Splinter Cell game, but Ubisoft has confirmed a remake of Splinter Cell is on the way.
That makes Driver: San Francisco somewhat of an odd one out. The game launched in 2011 to decent reviews, and exceeded Ubisoft's sales targets, but was delisted from stores in 2016. Since then, the franchise has been on hiatus aside from a bizarre free-to-play mobile game that focused on speedboats.
What other servers have returned from the dead?
Earlier this year, seemingly out of nowhere, Xbox servers for the Call of Duty franchise were resurrected.
This meant players could jump into iconic franchise entries like Black Ops 1, Modern Warfare 2, and World at War. Some commenters claimed it led to a sales lift for the titles, too, and it won't have hurt Microsoft's goodwill from fans, either.
Will Ubisoft's newly revived servers stay up? It's hard to say, but it'll be interesting to see. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to fire up Splinter Cell: Blacklist again.
