Filmmakers making the transition into video games isn't entirely new, with James Gunn working on Lollipop Chainsaw and Guillermo Del Toro's input on Hideo Kojima's P.T., but that doesn't mean that there's no big interest in it.
It might be a different medium, but to take the extra step into total immersion for storytelling is compelling, becoming a bucket list item for many. Now, a champion of the medium is taking a step into video games, as Michael Bay puts his signature style on some pixels.
Michael Bay is making a video game
Lens flares ahoy. Iconic film director Michael Bay might be known as the man behind Bad Boys, many live-action Transformers movies, and the recent Ambulance, but has revealed that he's currently working on a video game.
At August 30's live presentation from Ryadh's Next World Forum, GGRecon attended the High Score: When Celebrities Enter the Gaming Industry panel. The panel brought out Gareth Bale, Gary Vaynerchuk, and Michael Bay to discuss their contributions to the industry.
Bay revealed that he is "currently making a game that has been in three years of development." He wasn't able to give much else away, although, it sounds like some pretty big parties were interested.
Bay also added that "Sony tried to buy the game but we turned them down." It must be a pretty massive deal for Bay to invest so much faith in the game to keep it from the jaws of Sony.
Could Michael Bay be working on a Transformers game?
Before you get your hopes up that Bay will be giving us an AAA Transformers game, remember that he's stepped away from directing since 2017's Transformers: The Last Knight. Then again, he was still credited as a Producer on 2023's Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, so never say never.
Only time will tell what game Bay is actually working on and when we'll find out what idea was big enough, Sony was denied a slice of the pie. Still, the action man himself working on a video game is bound to be an exciting prospect. Bring on the smash-cuts.
