Lollipop Chainsaw's remake finally has its own title - but it's come with some pretty depressing news, as the game has been officially pushed back.

You'd be forgiven for missing that Lollipop Chainsaw was set for a grand return. But that doesn't mean the world hadn't been waiting for it.

The cult-classic, tongue-in-cheek hacker and slasher is a point of wistful reflection for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 players. Although it never soared with critics as perhaps it should have, it remained an absolute blast for those who had the foresight to take it for a spin.

The 2012 title was a sleeper for sure, but as a remake, Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP is hoping to finally take the series to the top of the world where it belongs. But there's some sad news.

Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP has been delayed

Though the development of the awaited (though not entirely expected) remake has been relatively quiet, we've finally got some notable word from its developers. Sadly, it's not quite good news, as the Lollipop Chainsaw remake has been hit by a delay.

Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP has been squeezed back to 2024. We expected it by the end of this year, but now, it's targeting summer next year.

"Apologies to fans waiting for the latest Lollipop Chainsaw instalment, thank you for understanding," say developers Dragami Games in an announcement on Twitter.

To be fair to the team, if the game isn't nearing its finish at this stage in the year, it makes sense for the game to be launched at some point next year.

Who are Dragami Games?

Lollipop Chainsaw star Juliet with her chainsaw, as a zombie shambles towards her.

It's notable that the first game was developed by Grasshopper Manufacture, while this is a relatively new company to take over. Dragami Games has been described as a successor to Kadokawa Games and has worked on a series of anime-adjacent games like GOD WARS, Relayer Advanced and Root Letter.

Who knows how their tenure as the overseers of Lollipop Chainsaw will go for the series, but we've certainly got high hopes. We can hear the chainsaw revving from here.
