Sony's State of Play showcases rarely disappoint when it comes to game announcements, and the January 31 event is no different.

While there have been whispers of reveals for the likes of Death Stranding 2 and Silent Hill 2, nothing is getting more attention than the Sonic x Shadow Generations remaster that was revealed by SEGA.

Aimed to bring a new lease of life to the iconic 2011 title for the blue blur, the game is guaranteed to be a nostalgia trip for mega fans of the Sonic franchise.

During the January 31 State of Play hosted by Sony, it was revealed that Sonic x Shadow Generations is set to arrive in Autumn 2024. Having sold over 1.8 million copies back in the Xbox 360 era, it's no surprise to see SEGA capitalising on the iconic game with a remake.

Bringing Sonic Generations to modern consoles will give the devs a chance to enhance the experience with significantly better graphics. However, as with any remake, it's going to be important to maintain the style and magic that made the original so popular.

Shadow's feature in the title of the remake suggests the gun-toting hedgehog is going to play a bigger role in the experience this time around. While certainly interesting, there's no guarantee that this will go down well with fans who primarily associate Sonic Generations with the titular runner we've come to know and love.

Inserting another character into the main stage of such an iconic title is a brave move from SEGA, but we'll just have to see how well the team can execute the idea.

Either way, it's an incredible time to be a Sonic fan, especially given all the rumours that have been circulating in the community have now been confirmed to be true. Now, the hardest part of the process begins - waiting for Sonic x Shadow Generations to finally release.
