We seem to be in a new golden age for gaming - but where are all of the platformers? Over the past couple of years, we've had to rely on indie developers to come through with some classic platforming. Although games like Here Comes Niko! and Grapple Dog are making jumps into the genre, they're yet to once again breach the mainstream and bring them back in a consistent fashion.

Kirby and the Forgotten Land could yet bring it back to boom, but we'll just have to wait and see if the pink puffball can pull it off. Although, that's not all we can yet expect - as a PlayStation mascot may be gearing up to pilfer a comeback of his own. Supposedly, the Sly Cooper series may be making a bold comeback during the PS5's lifetime.

Is Sly Cooper Returning On PS5?

A new report from AccountNGT has suggested that the game is coming to PS5, and even PS4 if it's in good time. Better yet, this Sly Cooper reboot may not be in development by original creators Sucker Punch Productions - likely as a result of its work on a sequel for Ghost of Tsushima.

The insider is known for revealing Star Wars Eclipse and the December update for GTA Online, so the leak is reliable - plus, it also teases that a new Infamous title is in the works. These once-forgotten PlayStation exclusives could help bolster the PS5's promise of more first-party titles.

We don't know just yet when exactly the return to form from the thieving raccoon, but the very fact that the news came in a quote tweet that suggested a new PlayStation event coming this month, it wouldn't be far out of the question to suggest that we could be getting some kind of soft-reveal during whatever his event this is.

Truly, there's no way of knowing until the reveal is made - but either way, this is exciting. Sly hasn't had a chance to prove himself to fans for a very long time, so who knows, we could be in for a real return to form for the raccoon.

Sly last graced the PS3 in 2013 with Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time, meaning his return is long overdue. We might be out of luck for AAA platformers for now, but the return of Sly Cooper could make a strong case for its comeback. We hope so, at least.
