You might have thought that within the last 12 years of Call of Duty titles, most of which share many of the same maps that continue to be remastered, that the arcade shooter franchise might have sped up a little bit.

It certainly felt like Call of Duty had injected some pace into the franchise, especially within the last six years as the advanced movement era had been followed by that of the slide-cancelling times and now the snaking season is upon us.

But it actually seems like Call of Duty has slowed down, as a side-by-side analysis of Modern Warfare 3 (2011) and Modern Warfare 2 (2023) has now been unearthed.

JGOD proves Modern Warfare 2 is slower than an 11-year-old Call of Duty

Using the map Dome, which was first introduced in MW3 and specifically remastered for MWII (with a simple re-skin and not a full redesign akin to Vanguard's Radar), popular Warzone statistician James "JGod" Godoy has released footage that shows Call of Duty was quicker in pace back in 2011.

Using standard sprint speed as the first example, on the respective MP5 guns with zero attachments equipped and without Tac Sprint enabled, Modern Warfare 3 operators moved faster than the current game's version, 11 years later.

The same rang true for sidewards strafe speed, ADS speed and reloading animations.

Call of Duty fans stunned at degressing speed of Modern Warfare 2

"Also, this was with zero attachments, with fully built out weapons it would be more drastic since they didnt penalize movement for realism in MW3," JGOD added.

The clip did have the perk "Stalker" equipped, which gives the speed a small buff, but it shows a stark contrast between the two games - especially in the strafe speed category.

"Good lord I thought everything felt slow because I had gotten so old," one fan said on Twitter, hitting us all right in the feels.

"People wonder why Jumpshotting has become more prevalent in MWII, despite the fact that it's been nerfed harder than ever in CoD," added popular content creator "Xclusive Ace."

Call of Duty devs previously said that the franchise has moved on too much from the Modern Warfare 3 and 2 ages from over a decade ago to remaster the titles, but upon reflection, maybe this was just a smokescreen and the theory has been debunked...
