Dragons are cool, right? But when you call an entire wyvern-depicting bundle after that milky-haired Malfoy boy, can they really be trusted?
Rocket League's relationship with the scaled beasts is a fabled one, with cosmetics dating back to 2017 as the Duelling Dragons goal explosions became one of the most popular items in the game.
But the latest set of items in the Draco collection has not gone down well, as an increase in bundle prices has left players bitter.
Rocket League players left scorched by Draco Aftermarket bundle price
The new Draco Aftermarket collection has landed in the store, sporting a range of decals, wheels, explosions, and profile items. In total, there are four decals inspired by the elements, with Draco [Earth, Water, Fire, and Multichrome] variants being available and each coming with its own wheels.
However, an individual decal costs a whopping 2,000 credits, or an extra 300 for the decal and wheel duo set. Currently, 2,000 credits is £16 (approximately $21.50), while the extra 300 for the wheel set is another £4 ($5.30).
The entire collection can be purchased for 4,000 credits, which is £27.50 ($37). This makes the collection one of the most expensive sets ever in Rocket League (post-trading), out-pricing crossovers like Transformers and Star Wars.
And players aren't happy about it...
Since the trading ban update was rolled out in Rocket League, items haven't been very valuable, and players expected the items to increase in value akin to Fortnite's market. The Draco bundle appears to have got the ball rolling, and players have become divided.
Long-time content creator Treyven "Lethamyr" Robitaille claimed that the pricing is "not cool" in his latest tweet, adding, "They make the price of one decal so ridiculous that they hope they entice you into paying for the $40 bundle instead."
Other fans agreed that the pricing is "awful" and "outrageous." One fan said, "I could buy an ENTIRE OTHER GAME with that amount of money and Epic thinks I would rather spend it on 2 game cosmetics that look downright awful?"
Another added, "I like the bundle but the price is outrageous." Others defended the price and admitted that games like VALORANT do it, and knowing what you're buying beats Rocket League's old gambling-esque crate boxes.
"It's better than paying $50+ for 30 loot crate common items I didn't want," said RLCS caster Joey "Jorby" Ahrens. "I remember when loot crates across games were everywhere, I would've killed to pay $20 for the skin I wanted. Might get flamed for that take but it used to be so much worse, man," he added.
The inflation does set a dangerous precedent for the future though, and with Epic Games's billion-dollar deal with Disney in full swing, rumours of a Spider-Man and Venom crossover could have your cash caught in quite a sticky web.
