Red Bull Kumite is coming to the Big Apple. For its ninth instalment, the tournament is bringing Street Fighter 6 to New York City for a 16-player single-elimination showdown.

Fielding some of the best players on the planet, there are still qualifying spots up for grabs. We'll explain to you what the event is about and how you can still compete.

Red Bull Kumite? What's that?

Red Bull Kumite is one of the largest and most prestigious third-party Street Fighter tournaments on the year calendar, bringing the best talent from around the globe together. It's been on a bit of a world tour throughout its history, hitting major cities like Tokyo, Paris, London, Lagos, Vegas, and more.

A total of 16 players (14 directly invited ones and two from qualifier events in the LCQ and the Play-in tournament) are set to battle it out in a single elimination bracket for $50,000 in prize money.

The Red Bull Kumite Last Chance qualifier allows for up to 256 players to battle it out for the last spot at the main event. So, if you are over 18, in the area, and like to show off your skills, head over to the official sign-up page

The Play-In event will determine the last remaining slot, pitting four players from the US Online Qualifier and an additional four from the World Qualifier against each other.

One of the invited players has already been revealed, with the Red Bull Kumite South Africa champion Adel "Big Bird" Anouche getting to defend his title in New York.

For this rendition of Kumite, the Greenpoint Terminal Warehouse in Brooklyn has been chosen. As a landmark of the American Industrial Revolution located close to the East River, its charming brick and wood design from the 1890s should allow for a unique event location for an esports event.
