When we say the words "New Vegas," chances are you think of the Mojave Desert being basked in neon, Mr. House's sneering face, and cutting around with Boone. Back in 2010, what started as a humble Fallout spin-off proved to be one of the best gambles Bethesda ever made.

While there once wasn't much hope that Fallout: New Vegas would succeed, it's since gone on to be heralded as one of the best RPGs of all time... and rightly so. Although there's been plenty of talk about a potential sequel over the years, the rumours have never turned into anything more than campfire stories to keep us warm in the Mojave Desert.

What Has Obsidian Said About Fallout: New Vegas 2?

Despite the success of New Vegas, the franchise reins were handed back to the core Bethesda team. From there on out, we've returned to mainline numbered entries and the disaster that was Fallout 76. With fans and developers alike clamouring for Bethesda to step out into the Wasteland once again, what have those at the top said?

Discussing all things Fallout with Dualshockers, Obsidian CEO Feargus Urquhart explained, "I hung around at Interplay for probably an extra year because I wanted to work on Fallout more. I love Fallout." As for the likelihood of it happening, he admitted, "Of course, if we ever got the opportunity to make another Fallout game, we'd make it. There's not even a question of whether or not we would do it, it's just 'Will the opportunity arise?'"

Expanding on what the studio's future looks like once it's finished upcoming games like The Outer Worlds 2, Urquhart added, "At some point we'll start looking into what those next games are going to be, and I would be surprised if Fallout is not on that list. If we were to do Fallout, it has to tie in with what Bethesda is doing with Fallout and a lot of other things, but I would always personally say my hope is that before I ride off into the sunset, I'd love to make another Fallout game."

Will There Be A New Vegas Sequel?

Although it once looked unlikely we'd ever get a New Vegas 2, Microsoft's massive acquisition means Bethesda and Obsidian now fall under the umbrella. Then again, Obsidian seemingly cashed its chips against New Vegas 2 when it celebrated the franchise's anniversary and said it's too busy to work on a sequel. Sadly, it sounds like those whispers Obsidian was working on New Vegas 2 were just more wild rumours from supposed "insiders."

Some took a glimmer of hope from the fact the developer said it was too busy "right now," but it's hardly confirmation Fallout: New Vegas 2 is out there on the horizon. There's been a lot of buzz about more from Obsidian in the Fallout universe, but as Urquhart says, it all depends what Bethesda has planned. Even though we know Fallout 5 is a long way off thanks to work on The Elder Scrolls 6, there would be a sense of poetic justice if Obsidian delivered another game just like New Vegas was made because Bethesda was busy on Skyrim
