You won't be able to stand under our umbrella - as it sounds like Nintendo has pulled the plug on a long-rumoured Resident Evil game that was coming to the Switch. While we've had plenty of Resident Evil games since the franchise's debut in 1996, a Switch exclusive isn't likely to be one.

The Resiverse is alive and well. Following the success of Resident Evil Village last year, we know a ninth main series game is on the way, as well as promises of some Village DLCs. Although Capcom is far from shutting down the Hive just yet, our hopes of seeing a new Resident Evil game on the Switch might've been scuppered before they were even revealed.

What's Going On With The Resident Evil Switch Game?

If you've kept your finger on the pulse of the shuffling series, you might've heard those swirling rumours of something called Resident Evil: Outrage. Way back when, this was thought to effectively be Resident Evil Revelations 3 - which would continue the branch of underrated Resi spin-offs.

Now, insider Nate the Hate claims the Switch exclusive has taken a shotgun to the face. According to the insider, Resident Evil: Outrage is no longer in development. Added to this, he says it was never going to be a Switch game. Instead, it was going to be a multi-platform multiplayer for PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.

While this is sad news for Resi fans that wanted to bring the zombie-shooting series to the Switch in a new way, there’s a small glimmer of hope. Nate added, "Resident evil for Switch was revelations 3, or was supposed to be revelations 3."

All might not be lost as he concluded, "The title may still be in development. The problem is, it is a very elusive game details on it have been incredibly difficult to come by it may still be in development."

Will We Get Resident Evil Revelations 3?

Sure, the two Revelations games aren’t exactly Resident Evil 4 in terms of reception or chart sales, but they've still nicely fleshed out the story. The last we heard, Revelations 3 could bring back the forgotten Rebecca Chambers. Away from appearing in the first game, Chambers was a major player in the Resident Evil Zero prequel and has appeared sporadically in expanded canon.

As for bringing the Resiverse to Switch, there are a handful of Capcom’s titles that have made the leap. In Japan, you could play the lauded Resident Evil 7 on the Switch. In the West, you can currently explore this zombie-ravaged world with the likes of 1996’s OG Resident Evil, Resident Evil 4, and both Revelations games.

With this in mind, maybe it’s why the idea of Revelations 3 landing on Switch won’t go away. Capcom's 25th-anniversary celebrations for Resident Evil weren't exactly massive (we're looking at you E3), so here's hoping there are more "revelations" in 2022.
