After a string of players were randomly hoisted from Modern Warfare 2 Ranked games and subsequently suspended from playing, the developers have now responded.

Modern Warfare 2 Ranked has only been live for two days, and while most players have been enjoying the experience - even casuals who are thankful for the sweaty players being driven away from public matches - others haven't been as fortunate.

Now, the developer is investigating a major issue with the mode, and is hopeful of putting its most rewarding Ranked system ever back into business.

Modern Warfare 2 Ranked plagued with 'inactivity bug'

Multiple players in Modern Warfare 2 Ranked are being actively kicked from games due to "inactivity", despite playing the game.

Most commonly seen in Search and Destroy matches where players are remaining still to watch bomb site entries or waiting to catch out overly aggressive players, an inactive bug is wiping out players.

Other instances of this bug have also appeared on Reddit and Twitter, leaving players quite frustrated as they begin the climb out of Bronze.

Infinity Ward 'investigating' MW2 Ranked inactivity bug

Infinity Ward has now responded to the issue, claiming that it's actively investigating the issue. We're not quite at Raven Software level of bugs, but still, it's not a good look for the start of MW2 Season 2.

Taking to the Trello board, the team said, "We're working with our partners to investigate the circumstances which might lead to a player being kicked for inactivity mid-match despite actively defending or roaming in the map."

It's not yet sure how long the issue will take to fix though. With hope that Infinity Ward will be prioritising this over some of the many other issues, given the efforts to get Ranked off the ground and populated with such density.

In the meantime, a word of warning to any Ranked players heading to MW2 over the weekend: stay on your toes and keep moving, or face an SR dip as a consequence.
