To practically reboot the entire Mortal Kombat franchise with a whole multiverse reset is pretty ballsy, but then again, NetherRealm and Ed Boon have always been pretty ballsy too.

Mortal Kombat 1 is here, and it's hoping to revamp how the franchise is seen on the front of video games, escaping from under the "just another Mortal Kombat game" complaints and bringing characters back to life in flashy and gory fashion.

Unfortunately, one version of the game is coming under the microscope, and we wish we'd never seen it. Reminding us of when Cyberpunk 2077 had some hilarious graphical differences between different consoles, the Switch port of Mortal Kombat 1 is quite the sight to behold.

Mortal Kombat 1's Switch version mocked by fans

We could have expected that the Nintendo Switch's edition of Mortal Kombat wouldn't be quite as graphically refined as its counterparts on the Xbox Series or PS5 consoles, but blimey.

New screenshots have appeared online and put the spotlight on exactly how the graphics of the game look. Many of the images feature bizarre facial expressions, wonky masks, and terrible costumes.

Many weren't sure that Mortal Kombat 1 would be able to hold up on the Nintendo Switch at all, and in these cases, it looks like they could be right. Fans have taken quickly to the internet to tackle the graphics - and just how grim they are.

Fans react to Mortal Kombat's Switch graphics

Fans wasted no time in rinsing the graphics of the game, calling the port a rip-off that has no right being on the Nintendo Switch. One simply said, "The Nintendo switch is a comedy," while another added, "Such a garbage port I swear."

A third added, "I called Nintendo for a refund, and they said it’s against their policy to refund. I haven’t even played the game yet. I got the normal version and not able to play early. Hell it wasn’t even downloaded til I made this post."

A fourth concluded, "The Switch has inferior graphics hardware. It is an old console from 2017, and very little has changed since then. That is 8 years ago since its release. Nintendo should release faster consoles at least every couple of years."

The port has clearly caught some weird, oddly-lit eyes for its graphics, and it's not exactly a good look for NetherRealm. At least we still have Smash.
