Modern Warfare 2 Trailer Leak Is Bad News For Xbox Players
It won't be too long before the Call of Duty franchise sits tightly under the control of Microsoft - following the acquisition of Activision. As the Modern Warfare 2 trailer leak proves, Infinity Ward is still set to throw some serious favouritism towards PlayStation.
If the Xbox creators thought that the pending merger would sway Activision to cut its current ties with Sony, then they're badly mistaken. Modern Warfare 2 is quickly becoming a tantalising prospect, with pro players already saying that it'll be "the best Call of Duty ever" after they had a chance to test out the game early.
With the next wave of lucky content creators and influencers getting the chance to play early runs of Modern Warfare 2, leaked footage of the trailer has emerged, and it's not great news for Xbox hopefuls.
What Does The Modern Warfare 2 Trailer Show?
After the worldwide reveal of Modern Warfare 2 gave us a glimpse of the entire Task Force 141 returning, including the infamous Captain Price, Simon "Ghost" Riley, John "Soap" MacTavish, and Kyle "Gaz" Garrick, promises of a trailer on June 8 were also hinted towards through cryptic easter eggs.
But just as all Call of Duty news is leaked prior to the actual reveal, the Modern Warfare 2 trailer is no different. Multiple videos have now emerged that show the Modern Warfare 2 trailer emerged early on Hulu - a streaming platform for TV and movies.
These snippets have shown early Campaign footage, which features the beloved Task Force 141 in all of their glory, battling their way through typically explosive plains and using their night vision goggles to become at one with the dark.
But not all is great for Xbox fans... As the trailer concludes, the Modern Warfare 2 release date is showcased, followed by the news that pre-ordering the game will make you eligible for the open beta early access.
Is Modern Warfare 2 Coming To PlayStation?
While this is quite normal for the franchise, the next slide shows that PlayStation 4 and 5 users who pre-order the beta will get early access "at least five days before any other platform," stumping Xbox and PC players again.
This move follows the same trend seen in the Black Ops Cold War and Modern Warfare era, where PlayStation exclusives were quite common. The PS Beta in Cold War was quite a thorn in the side of Xbox lovers as the console wars grew rife, while other exclusives around the Zombies Outbreak mode and the platform-exclusive Onslaught mode were somewhat pivotal in attracting a small portion of the Call of Duty community over to PS.
This could be the last year that a PlayStation exclusive is available, with Modern Warfare 2 being the last entry of the franchise to be rolled out while Activision remains a separate entity to Microsoft. Come 2024, when Microsoft will be liaising with Treyarch, you might see the roles are flipped.
So, take full advantage of it, PlayStation fans. It might be your last one.
