As the might OpTic brand dress up the Arlington Esports Arena in a neon green dress for the opening CDL Major, two familiar faces have finally been handed their party invitations, after the community all-but rolled out the red carpet for their return.
After Clint "Maven" Evans and Joe "MerK" DeLuca were absent from the Kickoff Classic broadcast team, and remained missing throughout the first few weekends of the pool play, fans continued to call for the casting duo to return to the league to light up games once again. Now, the Call of Duty League have heard their chants and have revealed that the beloved duo will return.
Maven and MerK To Cast CDL Major One
Having seen the likes of Loviel "Velly" Cardwell and Alyssa "Allycxt" Parker step up to the plate, admirably, there was still a Maven/MerK hole in the broadcasting team going into the OpTic Texas Major. However, just two days before the event, the duo both took to social media to clarify that their contract issues have been solved and they are returning to the CDL team for each Major and Champs.
"This is my home," Maven said on Twitter, adding, "Thanks to all the fans for the support along the way. Now it’s time to shake the rust off and get after it this weekend. It shall be a glorious time."
The duo won't be present during the league matches though, only when the cookie comes to crumble at the main events. "At first, it was odd to not be doing the entire league," Maven continued.
"But I think this could be a good thing! I want to work on the CDL forever, but will now need to work on other projects as well."
CDL General Manager Updates Fans On Upcoming Changes
The news first broke through a Call of Duty League community update with General Manager Daniel Tsay, who first applauded the energy from both Velly and Allycxt which has been evident since the start of the season. "They were always part of our plans", Tsay said.
Adding to the positive changes to the broadcast team, Tsay added that they are working on a range of balances to the competitive side of Vanguard, including reverting the way Control works and moving the bomb sites on Bocage.
Tsay also hinted that the Vanguard Season 2 map Casablanca could be being added to the map pool in the CDL, which is a very 'mixed' environment in which game modes such as Search and Destroy and Control would thrive in.
With such changes upcoming in the CDL, and the return of two casters that revel in the mayhem of high-octane games, the state of Call of Duty esports is finally looking brighter.
