With the Call of Duty League poised for a critical season amid back-to-back years of struggles with franchised formats, in-game bug issues, and the ongoing global pandemic, the pressure is on the CDL and the developers to put on a spectacle and keep fans interested before a potential rework comes into play.

The pending acquisition of Activision Blizzard by Microsoft could be the switch that the CDL needed to survive, although the third season will undoubtedly still be under the wings of the same developers who have been running the competition into the ground. Now, ahead of the seasonal curtain-raiser, it appears that many of the league's established broadcast team are not going to be coming back, as contracts have yet to be offered.

Maven Admits He's Not Received a CDL Contract

Following the departure of the beloved host Lottie Van-Praag, the first-choice casting duo of Joe "Merk" DeLuca and Clint "Maven" Evans admitted that they will be absent for the Kickoff Classic, unless something magical happens. However, Maven has now elaborated on the situation, admitting that he's not even been offered a role for this year, despite being the face of the casting line-up last year.

After being accused of putting out public statements to leverage a better contract with the developers, Maven responded by saying: "[I] haven’t even received an offer."

CouRageJD Backs Maven In CDL Contract Saga

Former Call of Duty World League caster and host, turned 100 Thieves co-owner and streaming sensation, Jack "CouRage" Dunlop has now backed both Maven and Merk, branding the league as "a mess" and "unexciting".

Both the casters have now expressed a desire to continue growing the streaming platforms and launch a freelancing commentary career if the CDL doesn't offer them a contract - which could see them grow into the next CouRage on Twitch, or appear on broadcasts such as Halo and VALORANT.

It's clear that the Kickoff Classic will not involve either of the pair, although the contracts will likely span from the first Major and onwards, should they finally be offered what they deserve.
