Though the communities around the Call of Duty franchise have plenty to complain about at any given time, one thing they rightly moan about (other than the bugs, glitches and hackers) is the skill-based matchmaking of online games.

There are a lot of troubles when it comes to pairing you with others of a similar skill level - while also deterring us from making Smurf accounts to take down smaller players. It's a problem not only in Call of Duty, but across competitive gaming. The CoDverse has suffered recently, and players have been left frustrated by its matchmaking. According to leakers, Modern Warfare 2 SBMM could change it all.

What's Going On With Modern Warfare 2 SBMM?

To the delight of a lot of gamers, it sounds as though the upcoming Modern Warfare 2 could be about to overhaul its matchmaking system. Call of Duty 2022 has been pitched as a hopeful return to form, and if Modern Warfare 2 SBMM is part of that, we say it'll be all the better.

According to new claims by popular leaker RalphsValve, the system is getting some tweaks to maintain fairness in the games going forward. Better yet, it will come in time for the new game's launch.

In an article on WhatIfGaming, Ralph claims that a source close to Call of Duty told him that the current SBMM is "complicated, but pragmatic. We're always looking for ways on improving every facet that contributes to a product's success, that's the initiative. [...] SBMM is one of those things, as it's really a matter of trial-and-error."

Will Modern Warfare 2 SBMM Get Bot Pools?

Along with the claims about Modern Warfare 2 SBMM, it looks like the title's multiplayer could also be getting bot pools, to coincide with the claimed arrival of the new DMZ mode. "With the overhaul in AI, they'll be able to track a players' level of skill throughout a match, leveling and countering Smurfs or outright removing the player from the matches." says Ralph.

They're interesting suggestions, and with changes like this, it could be a case of make-or-break for the franchise. Here's hoping that Infinity Ward can stick the landing - because we've learned that Call of Duty fans aren't particularly forgiving.
