Modern Warfare 2 has a lot riding on it. The sequel to 2019's Modern Warfare reboot has been suggested by Call of Duty themselves to be a point of change for the franchise - hoping to revitalise love for the series after the general flop that came with Vanguard, and even after the slow down-tick of Black Ops Cold War.

The Modern Warfare series has pull anyway, but this could be a chance for Call of Duty to finally claw back its reputation as a cultural phenomenon. So no pressure, then. The title will likely have to do something big and fresh to maintain some interest - and it looks like it's going to be taking inspiration from a popular shooter title to make up its new additions.

Call Of Duty Leaker Hints At New DMZ Mode

The hardcore shooter title Escape From Tarkov may have served as inspiration for the upcoming Call of Duty game, suggests one leaker. Popular leaker TheGhostOfHope has hinted that the brutal objective-based game has been a point of reference for the upcoming new mode, reportedly called DMZ.

In a new tweet, they said that "Modern Warfare II's third mode 'DMZ' will launch in BETA. Something like the DMZ doesn't become final until the general public has gotten hands on it. It's a large mode that needs maintenance." Interesting.

But, the links to Tarkov seem to lie in the more considered gameplay, suggests TheGhostOfHope in a separate reply. It sounds like the elements taken from Tarkov will be a much more tactical way of playing, forcing loot out of players' hands after deaths to truly raise the stakes.

Modern Warfare II's DMZ Will Be 'More Tactical'

In a reply to a Twitter user asking about the ways that the mode is actually like Escape From Tarkov, they say "What you take with you you can lose. More tactical. Etc." Call of Duty could be straying into more hardcore territory with this new mode, and forcing it on all players who get involved to deal with a higher difficulty and higher stakes could make for an interesting shift for the game's formula.

Of course, as with leaks, we'll have to wait to see them implemented to know for sure that the mode is all it's cracked up to be - but this seems interesting. A more tactical turn for Call of Duty could be huge, and if it's truly anything like Escape From Tarkov, we could be in for a treat.
