It's been a long time since we had a mainline Mafia game, and fans are getting antsy. Mafia III launched back in 2016 to predominantly middling reviews, but players have remained dedicated to living vicariously through its cast and experiencing the mafioso fantasy.
Although there are high hopes for Mafia 4 to bring the series back around to a recognisable state that wins critics over once again, your guess is as good as ours when it comes to its quality. But, it looks like there's something else to worry about in the meantime.
Mafia 5 appears to have leaked
We haven't even seen anything of Mafia 4 yet, which is frustrating enough for fans in itself - but it looks like its intended sequel has already leaked.
A new job listing from the development team at Hangar 13 has appeared on LinkedIn, searching for a full-time director to "own the development of a key franchise at Hangar 13." Throwing fuel on the fire, the ideal candidate will "play a vital part in the successful delivery of a major new title."
This includes, "post-launch content and future franchise planning." The listing adds, "You'll be collaborating with project leads, management, and our external partners daily ensuring this project progresses to successful completion."
Even though there's no actual mention of Mafia by name, there is still speculation - fans have interpreted this news as the accidental reveal of a direct follow-up to Mafia 4. But there's more.
Hangar 13 was planning a new game last year
Adding some validity to this is a conversation that Hangar 13's then-president Nick Baynes had with Bloomberg, which shone a light on their future plans.
Baynes said that the company was "aiming to green-light a sequel to Nero while it is still in development," with Nero being the presumed codename for Mafia 4 when it was in full swing of development.
Despite there being no official confirmation that Mafia 5 is happening from the company, all clues point in that direction. Now give us a Mafia 4 trailer, we beg.
