We've not even seen Modern Warfare 3 get an official announcement yet, but Call of Duty fans are already writing off this year in hopes that Treyarch can swoop in and save the franchise next year.

With Modern Warfare 3 all-but-confirmed to be the annual successor to the like-named and current Modern Warfare 2 next year, Call of Duty fans are getting slightly bored of this Sledgehammer Games and Infinity Ward stretch of games, even boycotting them both to play Cold War instead.

But now, leakers are already getting their mits into Treyarch's detailed files and have begun leaking information surrounding its setting.

Leakers double down on Call of Duty 2024 Gulf War setting

It was previously leaked that Call of Duty 2024 will be a successor to Black Ops Cold War, with returning characters like Russell Adler (well, maybe, depending on his dual-outcome in the Cold War campaign) and Frank Woods moving on to tackle the Gulf War.

With rumours that the setting will cover conflicts like those in Iraq and Afghanistan, leakers have now reiterated again and 'confirmed' these conflicts will be the main focus of the title.

Popular leaker CoD_Perseus, who brought us the first images of Modern Warfare 3, has now doubled down on the Gulf War setting and echoed the sentiment that there will be a typically Black Ops pacing and movement.

Black Ops Gulf War features leaked

According to the leakers, all previous information about the game appears to be true, meaning that the sliding mechanics, tactical sprint delays, and typical Black Ops TTK rates will all be applied.

The Gulf War-based game is also supposed to have round-based zombies and even Outbreak (following on from Treyarch's side-quest into Modern Warfare 3).

It might be quite a long wait until CoD 2024 is released, but here's hoping that the Cold War sequel will actually save the franchise.
