It looks official. The two-year Modern Warfare 2 plan has been scrapped, and what was supposed to be a DLC has now been transformed into a fully-fledged game, reportedly called Modern Warfare 3.

Recent reports from Insider Gaming, which have now been corroborated by various industry insiders, suggested that Modern Warfare 3 is the official title for Call of Duty 2023. More than this, a worldwide reveal should be imminent.

But amid all of the news about its direction within the franchise, chitter chatter about its performance as a video game has also emerged, and it appears that Modern Warfare 3 is set to be optimised for last-gen consoles.

Much can be said about the IW engine that hosts Call of Duty, but figures such as Dr Disrespect have claimed that it's tired and blown out by having to combat both previous and current generations of consoles.

And this problem may continue to be a dagger in the side of Call of Duty moving forward, as CharlieIntel has now followed up on the Modern Warfare 3 leaks by revealing that Sledgehammer Games intends to roll the game out on Xbox One and PS4.

Taking to their new podcast, CharlieIntel said, "This game is ging to be on old-gen for sure. Next year [2024] I think there is a question mark though." Of course, the title will also come to current-gen consoles too, as well as PC.

What consoles will Modern Warfare 3 be available on?

Amid the pandemonium that was the failed Activision Blizzard King acquisition by Microsoft, deals were set in stone to bring Call of Duty to Nintendo Switch and NVIDIA consoles too.

However, the deal inevitably fell through (subjective to appeals), and Nintendo was blamed for their lack of power to house the franchise games, meaning it's extremely unlikely that we'll see Modern Warfare 3 land on Switch at all.

With Warzone Mobile also set for release later this year, following its six-month delay, it's also highly improbable that NVIDIA will get a Modern Warfare 3 port too.

So, last-gen and new-gen consoles and PC appear to be the complete list of Modern Warfare 3 compatible devices, although who knows how they'll all fare.
