It's now been a couple of weeks since the launch of Elden Ring, and it's already proving to be one of the biggest standalone game launches of recent memory. Selling the most copies for a game that isn't from the Call of Duty or FIFA franchises since Red Dead Redemption 2, the release has been monumental, and proof that not only are players still absolutely riding the FromSoftware hype train, but also that fantasy games could be making an incredible comeback after a few years of dormancy.

Though the game has its own multiplayer applications, though, there's not an awful lot for players to do together, as pals - but one secret that has been discovered in-game could hint that this may not be the case forever.

Elden Ring Dataminer Discovers Abandoned Colosseum

A giant arena has been discovered in Elden Ring, spurring fans to expect that we could be getting some kind of competitive fighting DLC at some point in the future.

Dataminer Lance McDonald has discovered the interior of an in-game colosseum that could yet come into play during the game's lifespan. Players may have already found the arena itself, but it's completely inaccessible via the main game. Luckily, McDonald has been able to go out of bounds to have a poke around inside.

The video they've posted to YouTube follows them as they explore the fully textured arena, fit with room for spectators, bales of hay with spears poking out of them, and huge menacing gates.

It's certainly interesting to see, but it begs the question - what is this for?

There's every chance that this arena, textured despite never being intended to be shown to players, could imply that some competitive DLC is on the way, either with a boss rush mode or a way for players to fight each other. Fans have made it clear that they want the opportunity to take each other on with a Dark Souls 3 mod that pits them against each other, so we wouldn't put it past FromSoftware to give fans something they've been after for some time.

Though it could just be somewhere that devs tested fighting in, we're more than happy to focus on the positives here - and latch onto the idea that we could be getting even more bang for our buck with Elden Ring. We're looking forward to getting our butts handed to us by other players as well as the game's bosses.
