God Of War Director Teases ‘Surprising Ending’ Of Ragnarok
The ending of 2018’s God of War came packed with surprises of its own, which left fans desperate and clamouring for more - so it’s just as well that its sequel, the ominously titled Ragnarok, is finally on its way to answer some of our longest-standing questions.
The events of the game are still incredibly under wraps, and with this being the final title in the series, we’re going to be getting some closure that we may not be ready for.
And it’s the ending especially that we might not yet be prepared for.
God Of War Director Teases Ragnarok’s Ending
The finale of the Norse saga will have its own surprises peppered throughout, but the new director of God of War Eric Williams has suggested that fans are unprepared for what Santa Monica Studio has prepared for them.
After confirming that the game’s events will be during the cataclysmic Ragnarok (as the title would suggest), he says that “we just want to have an ending that feels very [...] surprising yet inevitable based on those things.” He has also recommended that players “prepare yourselves” for the events of the game. Blimey.
It seems like Ragnarok is going to be a pretty big deal - and if it’s even a patch on God of War’s quality, then we’re certainly in for a treat. But it looks like the team aren’t going to be skimping on the smaller stuff, too.
Eric Williams Calls Ragnarok “Very Worthy Of The God Of War Name”
Speaking on the game they’ve created, Williams insists that it’s not all bombastic action, as exciting as it is - there’s also the focussed emotional storytelling that made God of War so special in its sequel. “I’m from the midwest, so slice of life, very common, mundane things are just as interesting as big world events, so we’ve tried [to] collide those things together to make an experience that’s very worthy of the God of War name.”
The game sounds like it’s not only going to be bigger and more exciting than the first game, but also equally as quiet and refrained when it needs to be. Honestly though, whatever Santa Monica Studio think is best for the franchise is indeed, best. Kratos and Atreus’ story looks to be getting a heartfelt end, and we can’t wait to see how the Norse saga comes to a close.
