Gamers Think A New LEGO Harry Potter Game Is Coming

Warner Bros. Games is looking a little shaky right now, and with the catastrophic failure of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, there are also rumours the media giant's gaming arm could soon be up for grabs. Still, there's one IP that should have investors laughing all the way to the (Gringotts) bank.

Ever since a bespectacled Daniel Radcliffe first appeared on our screens in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, some have been obsessed with expanding the Wizarding World. While we miss the simple nostalgia of PS1 Hagrid, the Harry Potter IP is one that continues to grow like Devil's Snare.

Disclaimer: While the creator of the Harry Potter franchise was not directly involved in the creation of Hogwarts Legacy, their comments on social media around transgender people are hurtful and dangerous given the size of their platform.

We’d implore you to read our explainer of the controversy so far, and consider supporting trans rights charities where possible.

More LEGO Harry Potter could be on the way

We have the first official confirmation that TT’s next LEGO game will be built in Unreal Engine!

Part of Warner Bros. Games' current slump is that it comes off the back of a record-breaking year where Hogwarts Legacy beat Call of Duty to become the best-selling game of the year. We've heard plenty about WB fast-tracking a full-blown Hogwarts Legacy sequel, but elsewhere, could we be getting a new LEGO Harry Potter outing?

As shared on Reddit, it looks like Traveller's Tales is recruiting for its next LEGO title. Known for its work on everything from LEGO Star Wars to LEGO Lord of the Rings, it also has LEGO Harry Potter under its belt. The developer has a job listing for a Senior Game Programmer, adding that the "project you will be on will be a major IP-based LEGO game built in Unreal."

The mention of a "major IP" has immediately thrown open the door to speculation, with hopes of a potential sequel to 2018's LEGO DC Super-Villains, something related to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, or getting back on our brooms with the Wizarding World.

Someone in the comments mentioned that TT might be shackled to Warner Bros. IPs until 2028, although we'd need a source on that one. If this is the case, you can seemingly discount anything in the world of Star Wars (owned by Disney), as well as trying to tackle the sprawling multiverse of the MCU.

Despite controversy surrounding J.K. Rowling, the Wizarding World is still a hot property. Although the Fantastic Beasts went out with a whimper and we've not heard much from Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions, HBO is remaking the live-action movies and Warner Bros. is reportedly fast-tracking a Hogwarts Legacy sequel.

Remember that we're also on the cusp of WB rereleasing 2016's LEGO Harry Potter Collection for new-gen platforms. Coming on October 8, the collection is adding "60 FPS, native 4K resolution, haptic feedback, and high-resolution shadow maps." Who knows, maybe TT is hiring for the eventual remake of the rerelease?

If (and it's a big if) we're getting a new LEGO Harry Potter game, we're likely going back in time. There's never been a LEGO Fantastic Beasts game, but going back even further, the Hogwarts Legacy era also remains untouched. Assuming Warner Bros. continued to back on that period of Hogwarts, you can bet a LEGO game won't be far behind.
