Elden Ring is going to be big. Not only is it set to be big for FromSoftware - the team behind Dark Souls - and big for the current console generation, but it's also pretty massive for the fantasy genre in gaming at large.
The scope of Elden Ring looks pretty unrivalled, and it seems as though the cult-favourite Dark Souls series could simply have been a warmup for this huge, sprawling, open-world adventure. It's bound to be just as gruelling an experience as its predecessors, but chances are, fans are going to love it.
As details about the fantasy epic spill out just before launch, we finally have word on how long it's likely we'll be playing the game for. And frankly, the Elden Ring playtime looks impressive.
Elden Ring Playtime: How Long Is It?
The length of the main campaign of Elden Ring has now been revealed, and it sounds like we'll have plenty of adventure to be cracking on with.
Producer Yasuhiro Kitao has said in an interview with the Taipei Game Show that the game's main adventure can be completed in 30 hours. He suggested that even though "This will differ significantly by player," the Elden Ring experience will certainly be worth the entry fee in length alone.
"In terms of the targets set during development, the idea is that the main route should be able to be completed within around 30 hours," he said. "The game as a whole is quite massive, and contains many dozens more hours worth of gameplay, but if we are talking about the main route only, it shouldn't take much longer than that."
But, even when you're done with the main quests, you'll have more incentives to come back and do it all over again.
Elden Ring Will Have A Dark Souls Game Plus Mode
Much like its franchise predecessor Dark Souls, Elden Ring is set to have a New Game Plus mode that'll let you come back with all of your goodies in tow.
"After clearing the game the first time, you can carry across your character data and play the game again, against powered-up enemies," Kitao continued. "This has always been a feature of our games - in fact, with the world being so vast, the game is designed so that it can be cleared without necessarily experiencing everything.
"Some players will prefer to try and explore the entire map the first time, while others will leave some areas for exploration in second or subsequent cycles." Elden Ring is thankfully learning all the right lessons from Dark Souls and is shaping up to be the ultimate FromSoftware experience. We can't wait to dive in - then dive in again - then dive in again.
