In not-so 'fantastic' news for gaming developer Fntastic, the studio has confirmed it's closing its doors just days after The Day Before released. The 2023 game was pitched as an open-world survival game that could give the likes of Rust a run for their money, but instead, it was slammed as a cheap The Last of Us clone.

There were already worries that The Day Before was a scam, with it being oversold in its original reveal and the team suspiciously avoiding gameplay trailers. Now, those accusations are sure to rear their head, as Fntastic has confirmed it's shutting up shop.

The Day Before's Fntastic is closing

Posting on Twitter, Fntastic said its farewells and raised a few eyebrows just days after The Day Before released. Possibly giving us the worst video game launch of all time, Ftastic has left jaws on the floor with news it's no more.

The post says that Fntastic lacks the funds to continue, highlighting The Day Before as a financial flop at launch. The team reiterates it took no public money during The Day Before's development, with no Crowdfunding or pre-orders. Still, it's sure to set tongues wagging about what the modus operandi was here.

Despite Fntastic being shown the door, there's no news on what will happen to The Day Before. With the developer kicking the bucket, it's likely the game will go the same way. After all, it's not like there are glowing reviews to warrant a fan campaign to save it. Is this the end of The Day Before? Watch this space.
