The basics of the Call of Duty campaigns is that there are a handful of characters that are saving the world time after time.

Task Force 141 and the Black Ops roster have now prevented pending doom on countless occasions, whether it be shutting down the most life-threatening villains or literally closing off nuclear codes by the skin of their teeth.

So, it seems like they're not actually too dissimilar to another rabble of life-enjoyers who skirt with armageddon on a frequent basis.

A Call of Duty-like Final Fantasy game isn't impossible

So far, Final Fantasy is all swords and battle axes with a range of mythical and magical abilities mixed in to become one of the most-loved RPG series of all time.

But with Final Fantasy 16's release, the question beckons of what comes next? Is it guns in an almost Call of Duty x Skyrim crossover fashion? Well, Final Fantasy Producer Naoki Yoshida has now said that it wouldn't take much to arrange.

Speaking in an interview with Bloomberg, Yoshida flirted with the notion of a first-person shooter approach to Final Fantasy's future, saying, "A great story, great game design, cutting-edge graphics, great music, and moogles and chocobos. If you have those things, I think you have a Final Fantasy."

"Call of Duty is using all this modern weaponry, but when you think about it, it’s this small group of people going around saving the world—that's very Final Fantasy."

Naoki Yoshida claims Final Fantasy and Call of Duty are just a few crystals apart

After comparing the two in terms of their stories and themes, Yoshida added that, "All it would need is crystals," in order to make a Call of Duty-like shooter element into Final Fantasy, which might not indicate a full spin-off idea but does carry food for thought for future games in the series.

Maybe Activision might fancy dabbling in a crossover with Square Enix to produce a Final Fantasy Operator skin, or even make a Chocobo weapon skin to warm the hearts of the furry companion lovers.

While a Final Fantasy FPS game isn't completely unfathomable, it might be some time before Yoshida decides that the franchise needs for gunpowder than magic. Don't fix what's not broken...
