It's the end of an era as FaZe Clan has officially split from Jason Ruchelski. The Counter-Strike: Global Offensive whizz and FaZe (now former) captain is off to pastures new, in what is sure to be a blow to the team.
Jason "JasonR" Ruchelski was big news for FaZe as its first VALORANT signing, however, with a penchant for Riot Games' first-person shooter, it's no surprise the title is to do with his departure.
Where Ruchelski's departure was announced
On Twitter, the official FaZe account confirmed the news and explained that Ruchelski wants to build his own VALORANT team, and also "seek opportunities elsewhere".
Despite Ruchelski being signed on June 25 alongside Overwatch champ Corey "corey" Nigra, he's parting ways with FaZe just six weeks later. Ruchelski had said he's been excluded from roster discussions, and it's also important to remember he hasn't appeared as part of FaZe.
There's a sense that Ruchelski has been sidelined, especially considering FaZe took part in the VALORANT Ignition Series event in the T1 x Nerd Street Gamers Showdown.
FaZe placed fourth in the Ignition series thanks to help from Zachary "ZachaREEE’" Lombardo and Johnny "Marved" Nguyen, who were later signed to the team. There were questions over why Ruchelski wasn't part of the lineup, but the latest news hints that there were some tensions bubbling underneath the surface.
Ruchelski was open about his exclusion from FaZe and previously outed the team by saying, "Marved just got announced on the FaZe Clan roster, but I’m not playing for FaZe. I’m not practicing with that roster.
I had no say in who they were picking up at all. I had no choice in the roster, and I’m not going to be forced to play with anyone I don’t want to...I’m not practicing with anybody right now. I was put into a weird situation".
It's unfortunate timing for FaZe, which is just days away from its own Ignition Series event and is down to just three players. Expect the Ruchelski-shaped hole to be filled pretty quickly, becasue it's hard to imagine FaZe leaving the slot open for long.
