Faker’s Military Service Could Be Postponed Due To New South Korean Bill
League of Legends' greatest player of all time could be exempt from South Korea's military service, with a new bill that recognises Lee "Faker" Sang-hyeok as an individual who has made significant contributions to the country's global image.
Korean Democratic Rep. Jeon Ki has proposed a bill to the government, that would postpone the enlistment in Korea's military service for people who make a "significant" impact on the global image of Korea, with LoL star, Faker, being one of the examples in his report.
The current military service laws mean that the only exemptions from military service are individuals who are a student that attends a high school, college, or university, an individual who is taking a course determined by a training institution, or an individual who is excellent in the field of physical education to promote national prestige.

This new law will allow the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism to allow anyone who is deemed an "excellent person" in the field of culture and arts to apply for their military service to be postponed until they reach the age of 30. Should Faker want to become exempt from enlistment, he can apply for a postponed service until he reaches that age.
Faker - who has earned $1.2m in prize money over his seven-year career - is a two-time world champion, winning the 2015 and 2016 World Championships for T1.
A similar bill was passed for Olympic gold medalists, who were made exempt from military service if they won gold, having to do just four weeks of basic training instead. The Korean football team won gold, meaning Premier League and Tottenham Hotspur star Hu-Min Son returned to his club after just four weeks of basic training.
