Elden Ring pros will struggle with Shadow of the Erdtree’s difficulty
After what feels like an eternity of waiting, Elden Ring's Shadow of the Erdtree DLC is officially on the way, Frankly, we don't know what to do with ourselves in the meantime.
The DLC has been a long time coming, so it's rejuvenating to see that it appears to be FromSoftware's biggest game expansion to date. Shadow of the Erdtree boasts plenty of new bosses, weapons, and skills to discover across the Land of Shadow.
Although hype is rife, we've been reminded of the trials and tribulations that lie before us, and they could be tougher than we've ever been prepared for.
Elden Ring DLC comes with new difficulty scaling
A fascinating tidbit has been revealed about the upcoming Elden Ring DLC, and it indicates that we could be in for a new way of experiencing that trademark FromSoftware video game brutality. If you thought the Dark Souls games were brutal, that was nothing compared to Sekiro, which Elden Ring then eclipsed.
Speaking with Famitsu (translated by Reddit user theangryfurlong), Elden Ring Game Director Hidetaka Miyazaki has confirmed, "There is an element of leveling unique to the DLC." He says the new system is similar to the scaling of difficulty in Sekiro, adding, "Separate from the original level system there is an 'attack power' that is only enabled in the DLC areas."
He continues - "This was introduced in order to give freedom to meet the threats mentioned earlier, so you can do something like exploring other areas before going back to challenge bosses that were too strong the first time, allowing you to more easily experience this even in the high-level range."
Shadow of the Erdtree introduces eight new weapon types
Fans expected that there would be some new weapons up for grabs across the Land of Shadow, but much to their surprise, Miyazaki has revealed that there are eight new weapon types coming to the DLC. There are also new additions to existing weapon types.
It's a pretty amazing number of new ways to chop down foes - especially as The Lands Between are so incredibly diverse and laden with weapons to find. FromSoftware's impressive legacy means we always expected the team to push the boat out on an Elden Ring DLC, but if there's a boss harder than Starscourge Radahn, we're not sure we're ready.
