It sounds like it's not just Doctor Who fans looking forward to the upcoming reboot with Ncuti Gatwa. Someone at FromSoftware is clearly a fan of the Whoniverse, as a sneaky Elden Ring Easter egg immortalises one of Doctor Who's most iconic enemies.

From the albino Godskin Apostles to firefly-esque Astel, Fingercreepers looking like they've been pulled from Ocarina of Time to Arcane Sphere of Faces being a literal sphere of faces, there were plenty of creepy creatures that came crawling out of the Lands Between in Elden Ring. Some of these wouldn't look out of place as a Doctor Who villain of the week, but did you find a possible Easter egg honouring the BBC's series?

What Is Elden Ring's Doctor Who Easter Egg?

Posting on Reddit, u/DockingCobra said, "I'm glad someone had the same thought as me when I first saw these," then shared some in-game images from inside the Shaded Castle. In one room, there are a bunch of statues that have been covered by sheets.

It's a little tenuous to link Doctor Who's Weeping Angels to this, but it turns out others have had the exact same thought. We all know that you can leave messages for other players in Elden Ring, and here, one has written, "Be wary of angel." When you enter the room, you might notice that several of these statues look like they're poised to attack the Tarnished - similar to the Weeping Angels if you blink.

Doctor Who fans and others alike shared their love of the possible Easter egg. One joked, "The Doctor wishes to know your location," while another added, "Not gonna lie I really expected they’d try to kill me at some point once I looked away. Was kind of disappointed when they didn’t." A third concluded, "Anyone else feel like these were a missed opportunity? The Shaded Castle has no unique enemies but all of these statues that could've been something terrifying."

Are There More Elden Ring Easter Eggs?

Like any modern release, Elden Ring is packed with homages to other video games and pop culture. As well as a tonne of nods to the Berserk manga, we also get winks to Bloodborne (Ghiza's Wheel copying the Whirligig Saw), Dark Souls (the eternal cities being named after Gwyn’s children), and even a line from Frozen being referenced in Blaidd's armour. Of course, there's also the return of Patches.

Reddit is packed with Elden Ring Easter eggs, but not all of them are the real deal. Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin recently denied that some of the main characters were named after him. Even if you're disappointed Elden Ring's sinister statues aren't quite Weeping Angels, there's a chance they could return for the long-rumoured Elden Ring DLC. In the meantime, feel free to wander around the Shaded Castle and blink as much as you want. Those Weeping Angels aren't spreading their wings just yet.
