Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) is traditionally made up of defenders and attackers with two different goals. The only thing is that CS:GO has been around for a long time now, meaning players must come up with creative and mind-boggling strats like no other. Some players have found success by constantly rushing to confuse their opponents. The best part about this is seeing people run down mid while also having to defend their site on CT rounds. It makes no sense, which is why it’s the best possible play to pick up some round-winning trades.

Pro players like Andrei "arT" Piovezan, Jacky 'Jake' "Stewie2K" Yip, and Fernando "fer" Alvarenga have taken aggressive play styles to the next level.

BRAZIL PLAYS WITH FIRE

What makes arT special compared to other players is his ability to make risky manoeuvres. Most importantly, he always seems to pick up these outrageous entry frags with zero effort. Some might call him careless or greedy, but the pro scene understands his way of thinking, especially his teammates on FURIA Esports. The competitive scene in Brazil has picked up on arT’s way of playing, but still can’t beat him while understanding his go-to routes. Smokes are always tossed in arT’s favour because he uses them as barriers. While opponents can still shoot through them, it’s hard due to lack of vision. A lot of players like to toss smokes and walk away, thinking nobody in their right mind would push it. That was all true until arT became the centre of attention back in June when he showed a great performance at the DreamHack Summer Open.

On round fourteen against team oNe, FURIA was attempting to push through mid with an entry frag. They threw a smoke into window and proceeded to walk up to sniper's nest with ease. After a successful window boost, arT peeked through his own smoke and shot an opponent sitting in jungle. He continued to challenge every angle and finished off two more players on platform and CT. Not only is arT great at rushing, but his aggressive tendencies also lead to mind-blowing clutches. Against Team Liquid in the grand-finals, arT took hold of an AWP and got a 1v3 without backing away from a single gunfight.

Another Brazilian slayer is fer, who currently plays alongside MiBR. He’s earned over a million dollars since 2011, and has always gone above and beyond when competing for titles. Sometimes he goes by the name of ferGOD or ferMONSTER; makes sense with the way he tears it up on LAN. A lot of fans within competitive CS:GO recognise fer as the founder of CT sided aggression. Anytime fer would push down mid as a CT, he always carried an incendiary grenade with him. Whenever fer was caught in a sticky situation, he would drop an incendiary on his cutoff, allowing him to escape with ease instead of requiring a teammate to trade his frag.

One of fer’s most recent highlights was at Flashpoint Season 1 back in March. In game two against Gen.G, fer was faced with the task of holding down mid on pistol round. After picking off two players on mid with a glock, fer continued to rush down alt and bait his final opponent. To this day, fer is still one of the most aggressive players in competitive CS:GO and is widely recognised as one of the best in Brazil. Even though MiBR hasn’t been the highest achieving team within the past three months, fer still holds the title as a beast with insane amounts of aggression.

NORTH AMERICA  FORMS A CS:GO VILLIAN

While Brazil is well known for producing some fast-paced players, that doesn’t mean North America hasn’t done the exact same thing. Team Liquid’s very own IGL Stewie2k has had his fair share of moments with forceful plays. The Major winner and million-dollar achiever has spent the past six years perfecting his craft as one of the best to play CS:GO at a professional level. He’s mostly known for his time spent with teams such as Cloud9, MiBR, and obviously Team Liquid as a strategic pawn. Stewie2k is one of the only players to keep their same exact playstyle when transferring from pubs to competitive. At first, nobody expected his debut to be out of the ordinary, all casters saw was just another keyboard warrior. Stewie2k proved everyone wrong by pulling off insane plays game after game.

All three of these players continue to dominate as threats within top-tier events. They don’t play like most, which makes them unpredictable in any situation. Some new players on the come-up have tried their best to mirror these aggressive tones but can’t seem to do it. Most people aren’t made to produce these insane plays on the daily - that’s why they’re best left for the pros.
