The first day of CDL Atlanta has concluded with the matches going about as the community expected. While there were some exciting matches, most were fairly onesided. However, we did see the Chicago Huntsmen get pushed to the brink by the Toronto Ultra, who will likely want to forget today. On the other hand, the hometown team Atlanta FaZe will definitely want to keep today in the back of their minds. Let’s take a look at how the day unfurled in Atlanta, Georgia.

Chicago and Atlanta take over day one, earn bracket play entry

CDL Atlanta had two favorite teams coming in, being the Huntsmen and FaZe. After the matches have concluded, we’re still left with that same thought.

Comparing each team, FaZe had by far the stronger day, winning both of their matchups and only dropping one map combined. First, they kicked off their tournament with a swift 3-0 over OpTic Gaming. There was really nothing special other than Atlanta showing how far ahead they are of the weaker CDL teams.

Next, the FaZe took on London, who were coming off a win against the Florida Mutineers. While the Royal Ravens did take a Domination, FaZe blew threw the EU squad pretty handily.

As for Chicago, the CDL London champs took on the Toronto Ultra first. Everyone expected a 3-0 victory, but the Huntsmen were pushed to a game 5, round 11, which they barely won. This was the first time they nearly lost a match in the CDL thus far.

After that thrilling win, they faced off against the Minnesota Rokkr, who had yet to lose a match in the CDL. However, that, of course, ended when the Huntsmen won 3-1. Chicago will need to step up their game if they want to take down the likes of Atlanta in bracket play.

Tomorrow, Atlanta plays the winner of London and Florida while Chicago plays the winner of Minnesota and Paris.

CDL Atlanta Day One standings

As for the rest of the teams in Atlanta, no one roster really stood out. As previously stated, the Toronto Ultra lost a  nail-biter against the Huntsmen. However, they also lost another game 5, round 11 match at the hands of the Paris Legion. While the standings don’t show it, the Ultra made great strides today.

Besides the Ultra, the other teams in the tournament didn’t stand out too much. OpTic Gaming L.A. is still winless in the CDL and the Paris Legion seems to have regressed. As of right now, it doesn’t appear that any squad will be able to match the prowess of either the Huntsmen or FaZe. However, we’ve been surprised before.
