The battle pass structure of gaming has done a lot of titles the world of good by offering them a platform - but it can also work against itself. Now, Call of Duty: Vanguard is back in the firing line thanks to monetised killcams.

Relentless monetisation has made its place in the gaming industry as something everyone can rally against, and it's spreading beyond just loot boxes. The battle pass in games that have already charged for entry often feels as though it's just taking the mick with fans.

As NFTs arrive in the gaming space, gaming companies are getting worse at disguising their attempts at harvesting money from players. And now, as well as being the subject of frustrations for its monetisations, Call of Duty: Vanguard has already hit a new low during its first season.

How Is Call Of Duty: Vanguard Monetising Killcams?

The announcement of the first Vanguard and Warzone Pacific battle pass has come with a new trailer, and it includes the reveal of some brand-new cosmetics that players can bag. One feature is, so far, pretty unpopular with fans.

The announcement reveals a new cosmetic called "killcam vanities," which features a border that adorns a player's killcams to add a slither of visual flair. Of course, with these being entirely optional and pointless in many ways, a lot of fans have interpreted this as a way for Call of Duty to monetise every corner of gameplay. And frankly, they're not far off.

Fans React To Monetised Killcams

Fans are reacting pretty poorly to the new cosmetics, with many feeling as though this is just a step too far for the franchise in its attempts to make more money.

 

It's a shame that Call of Duty: Vanguard is trying to farm more cash - especially with a feature that's remarkably ugly.

The trouble here is, if killcams aren't safe, then what is? When does it end? There's every chance that Call of Duty will surprise us with just how low they can sink and what the publisher will do to harvest your hard-earned cash to line its pockets for the inevitable Call of Duty 2022
