Pre-ordering for early access has become more common in recent years, with giant titles like Starfield and the previous two Modern Warfare entries featuring the trend.
However, it looks like Call of Duty 2024 will step this up by potentially offering weeks of early access for certain game modes.
Call of Duty 2024 may offer weeks of early access
According to Windows Central, more details are beginning to be leaked about the next Call of Duty, which has been tentatively titled Call of Duty Black Ops 6 and may take place during the Gulf War.
The same report also mentions that internal discussions are taking place about the next Call of Duty launch, and apparently, the early access window will be expanded this time around.
Modern Warfare 2 and 3 allowed players to enjoy the single-player campaign several days before launch if they pre-ordered, but COD 2024 may offer the entire base game up as a bonus.
Going even further with the concept, entire game modes may be available weeks before launch if the reports are to be believed.
Zombies is one of the modes that's been heavily rumoured for the upcoming entry, and with COD 2024 having one of the longest dev cycles in the series yet, it may be the case that it's ready far before the official launch.
What else do we know about Call of Duty 2024?
As usual, the second a new COD releases, rumours and leaks about the following title begin to come out of the woodwork, and it's no different this time.
We know that it's being made by Treyarch, who are stewards of the Black Ops series. This gives weight to the rumoured Black Ops 6 title, while Windows Central suggests it will be called Call of Duty: Black Ops Gulf War - serving as a sequel to 2020's Cold War.
However, the story and setting are new for the series, with it reportedly taking place during the Gulf War of the early 1990s. It will also focus on the CIA as the main faction and examine the US's role in the conflict.
On the multiplayer side of things, there may be some returning maps from the previous Black Ops games, with leaks of game files pointing to Grind and WMD. The iconic Zombies mode is also set to return with a round-based format.
Even though it's still early, the rumour mill for COD 2024 has only just begun firing up. Based on what we've heard so far, it may be a good sign for fans who were disappointed with the reportedly rushed MW3.
