In a bid to win the war of the next-generation consoles, Xbox and Microsoft acquired Bethesda Studios, creators of Fallout, Doom, and The Elder Scrolls Series. Ahead of the launch of the Xbox Series X, many Skyrim faithful flocked to get their pre-orders in, thinking that future editions of the franchises will be exclusive to the console.

Exclusive games have become a key component to the success of the PS5, with titles such as Godfall, Spider-Man: Miles Morales, and Horizon Forbidden West being contributing factors as to why a gamer would opt for a PlayStation. However, Xbox has struggled to capture the same significance, despite holding Halo and Gears of War ransom. Capturing Bethesda was a huge coup for Xbox, but it seems that The Elder Scrolls developer Todd Howard still wants the sixth installation to come out across all next-gen consoles.

In an interview with GamesIndustry, Howard stated "All of the games I've done we've partnered with Microsoft in some way. So as we come to Starfield and Elder Scrolls 6, I guess this is partnering in a bigger way.

"We felt very strongly about their view of access; games for everybody that we can bring to anybody regardless of where they are, what devices they're playing on. We're very, very passionate about that, and at the end of the day we're convinced we'll make better products and get them to more people easily by being part of Xbox as opposed to being just a third party."

"The next generation, the next five or ten years, is really about bringing access to games very easily to everybody, no matter where they are in the world or what devices they like to play."

Despite the strong ties with Microsoft, Howard clearly has his sights set on allowing everyone to marvel in the world that will be The Elder Scrolls: VI, when the game finally comes to fruition.
