The Call of Duty League in Modern Warfare has far from been a resounding success. Even if you stripped down the game back to its bare bones, past the endless amounts of glitches, exploits and cheats that have been allegedly used by players, the competitive side of Modern Warfare has still been branded as one of the worst esports titles that Call of Duty has ever made.

Players have put this down to four main reasons: Squad spawns, map designs, gun meta, and being 5v5. The latter, at least, is due to change come Black Ops Cold War, if New York Subliners' Dillon "Attach" Price is to be believed.

The 2015 World Champion dropped a huge hint at the next Call of Duty going back to 4v4 on his stream, as he was preparing for the World Championship Playoffs starting August 19.

On his stream, Attach can be heard saying "I need to keep getting these two and three pieces" he explained in frustration of having that extra man on the map than every other title prior to Black Ops 4. He then added,"All I need to count up to is five right now, and next year all I have to count up to is four, so we're good, we don't need to go back to school".

Many fans and players have been hoping for this news for some time, with speculation that the league could also be expanded to 16 teams so make room for the quality of players that currently feature in the Call of Duty League.

The last 4v4 title was Sledgehammer Gaming's World War Two, in which the Evil Geniuses roster of Patrick "ACHES" Price, Bryan "Apathy" Zhelyazkov, Adam "Assault" Garcia, and Justin "SiLLY" Fargo-Palmer became World Champions, taking home the $600,000 prize and a ring for their mantlepiece.

Apathy, now of the Seattle Surge, will kick things off in the Modern Warfare World Championships Playoffs on August 19, as he, amongst others, will look to find their form in what's set to be the last 5v5 championships.
