Video game series have won back some critical love in recent years, with The Last of Us doing a lot of heavy lifting to introduce the uninitiated to the devastating story of Joel and Ellie, and as video games still prove their worth on the big screen with The Super Mario Bros Movie and even box office hit Uncharted, players are truly getting the adaptations they deserve.

It seems that the video game on both the big and small screen is coming back in a big way, especially at Paramount, with their streaming service playing host to the ongoing controversial Halo series.

But, it seems that the Paramount+ gaming world just got a little bigger with a truly shocking update.

Paramount+ reveals ARK: The Animated Series

In a huge shock for both fans of ARK and video game adaptations, Paramount+ has revealed that it has surprise-launched an entire ARK animated series today, featuring an absurdly stacked cast.

The new show is now streaming in its entirety on Paramount+, and enlists the voice talents of (take a deep breath): Vin Diesel, Michelle Yeoh, Gerard Butler, David Tennant, Russell Crowe, Jeffrey Wright, Karl Urban, Zahn McClarnon, Devery Jacobs, Elliot Page and Alan Tudyk.

The first six episodes are now available on the streaming service, with another seven episodes serving as "part two" of the series set to come at a "later date." We don't know yet when this will be, but blimey, we've certainly got enough to tide us over.

A new synopsis for the series has been revealed, which describes the show as "An animated adaptation of the hit video game featuring Yeoh, Butler, Crowe and Diesel, ARK: THE ANIMATED SERIES is a sweeping saga spanning eons of human history.

"When 21st-century palaeontologist Helena Walker (Madden) finds herself resurrected on a mysterious primaeval island populated by prehistoric beasts, she must learn to survive with new allies from throughout time, while trying to uncover the true nature of their strange new world."

The show sounds incredibly compelling, and it is perhaps as fascinating as the strange marketing push that Paramount+ has given it - or lack thereof.

This either shows total confidence in the series or that the company is willing to send it to die, in spite of its stacked cast. There's only one way to figure it out. We'll see you on the other side of these six episodes.
