After leaving Team Vitality and the professional Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) scene due to "personal reasons" back in March, Alex "ALEX" McMeekin is reportedly returning to competitive play to lead a brand new roster for FunPlus Phoenix.

In his 16-month tenure at Team Vitality, Alex became a crucial cog in the engine that saw Vitality become the second-best team in the world, behind Astralis. During his time there, he also managed to rack up seven major trophies, including the Esports Championship Series Season 7 and EPICENTER 2019.

Reliable journalist Jarek "DeKay" Lewis claims Alex will return to the scene in a big way. Alex is still contracted to Team Vitality as an inactive roster member, with a buy-out clause thought to be around the region of $600,000.

FunPlus Phoenix has had two short spells within the CS:GO, both of which featured in FLASHPOINT Season 1. The Danish roster of Heroic was its first acquisition, although the move fell through within four weeks as Patrick "es3tag" Hansen joined Astralis. The second roster - a temporary to finish the FLASHPOINT season - was a predominantly American roster, which failed to set the world alight after moving over from Bad news Bears.

The Chinese organisation has been heavily rumoured to return for some time now, expanding from its League of Legends team, which are former world champions.

Who's set to join Alex is also unclear, as the team will be formed from scratch. Alex, who stepped down to take some time out after feeling burnt out and fatigued, has expressed his desire to return to competing in numerous interviews. He's already attracted organisations like as FunPlus, which looks to be building a team around the British star.
