It’s about time that I admit I've become an aged gamer. My body's frankly not what it once was, and I can no longer contort myself like a pretzel to reach peak comfort levels. So that means it's well and truly time to invest in a chair for both my gaming and working life that can provide a more than adequate amount of comfort and support for my back - for a prolonged amount of time.

Thankfully, I've been able to test out the ThunderX3 CORE PU Leather Gaming Chair, and it's something that ticks nearly all of the boxes for me.

GGRecon Verdict

Overall, for the price, the ThunderX3 CORE PU Leather Gaming Chair really provides a high level of comfort and reliability, completely changing my mind about gaming chairs and winning my trust back in them.

You're going to be hard-pressed to find a chair with this amount of flexibility and comfort for a cheaper price, that’s for sure.

Firstly, there are loads of gaming chairs on the market, so what makes this one any different from the others? Well, the ThunderX3 CORE utilises an advanced backrest that matches your movements while you're seated, meaning that the chair adapts to your position.

So if you give in to the urges and find yourself reclining into a feral position, the back support will match your movements and still provide support for your back - even if you're in goblin mode.

This is easily the best feature of the ThunderX3 CORE Gaming Chair. The lumbar area of the backrest is its own dedicated panel that can move independently in any direction. The movements themselves are really smooth as well, so after a while I didn't notice or feel that the chair was moving with me, mimicking my movements for a comfortable experience.

One of the additional features that I initially didn't see as a necessity (but have grown to love) is the three-in-one multi-purpose footrest.

It's got a solid base with a domed cushion that features firm internal padding and a soft, yet durable cover. A lot of chairs nowadays have some form of footrest attached to the chair, which can be folded out to pop your feet up.

As someone who's 6ft 3 with size 11 feet, those things don't compute to me very often, so this option of a footrest that you can adjust and place wherever you want is much better (and comfier). As an added bonus, if you don’t want to use it for your feet, you can use it as an arm wrest to support your controller.

The frame is made from stainless steel, and for the padding on the chair, moulding, and latex foam are used for optimised support.

Sitting in any chair for an extended amount of time usually results in discomfort, but The ThunderX3 CORE PU Leather Gaming Chair has so many options and elements that you can adjust to your specific standards so that you don’t feel this way.

The SYNC6 mechanism provides six-way adjustability, allowing you to configure this gaming chair to best meet your needs and desires. Essentially, you can mould this chair to your exact measurements and preferred sitting position with ease - and to a very high standard of accuracy.

Some of the key features the chair boasts are a synchronous tilt mechanism, forward tilt of the seat base, four backrest resistance levels, and multi-angle locking. The seat base itself can also be moved up, down, back, and forth.

The synchronous tilt allows the seat and backrest to move at the same time in sync, rather than staying in a stationary position, creating support for your whole body as you lean back. What's more, the recline can be also locked at a range of angles to best fit your gaming style.

When I say I'm absolutely useless at anything DIY-related, that is an understatement - I struggle to put anything together, even with in-depth instructions. The ThunderX3 CORE PU Leather Gaming Chair was a welcome exception to this.

The last gaming chair I made ended up with me puncturing the chair with one of the armrests, but thankfully, none of these issues persisted when building the ThunderX3 CORE.

What made it even better was that it was something I was able to make in a sensible amount of time. Usually, these projects take me hours, but this gaming chair was out of the box and had me sitting on it all within twenty minutes.

You can tell the quality of the materials used to make the chair is really high as well. I've been using this chair nearly daily for over a month - nothing has gone wrong, and there are zero signs of wear and tear.

Should you buy it?

I have to admit, I was very sceptical coming into this review. Me and gaming chairs have rarely seen eye-to-eye, but I was open to having my mind changed. It’s safe to say the ThunderX3 CORE PU Leather Gaming Chair has done just that.

While the back support can take some getting used to, and I have to admit I quite often forget I even own the footrest sometimes, you can’t argue against the overall comfort of the chair. The back support is incredible and offers so much comfort, thanks to how flexible the back panel is. I sit in some of the oddest positions imaginable, but at no point did I feel like the chair was not supporting my back.

The only negative I can really find with this particular model is that leather can get warm and a tad sticky in hotter temperatures. I've been testing this out over the winter months, so while I can't fully comment on whether this would happen or not, I imagine it could be rather difficult to sit on for longer periods in the Summer.

There have been a few occasions where I have left sweat marks from where I have been sitting even during the colder months, so if this is something that might bother you, there's a Core Loft version of the chair which has a fabric style to it instead.
